Question by James G: What career path should I INVEST myself into?
Career experts, aviators, psychiatric technicians, fitness trainers, Teachers/Coaches and anyone else with first hand knowledge in these respective areas, this is for you.

I am 29. I have a 10 month old baby girl. I recently passed the GED test with my scores in the top 86%-99% rank, meaning in the top 1%-14% in each of the subjects given. I spent 10 years as a critically successful artist. However, due to the financial aspect(I refuse to go commercial and I have a family to feed), and the fact that I’m burned out, I would like to take full advantage of my recent layoff from my “day job”, and find a new passion/career and excel in it, both for myself and my family.

After an entire year of ‘deliberation’ with myself and my wife, I have formulated a plan to obtain a vocational certificate while I am unemployed, and then to get a better job than what I had before, so that I can realistically pursue my degree.

However, I have had a great deal of stress stemming from my background, which is where you guys come in:

- Ages 15-18, I had spent some time in two private psychiatric facilities on four different occasions for depression/suicidal thoughts. Two of those were for documented ‘attempts’. I was just crying for help and going about it the wrong way.

.Obviously, I dropped out of high school. I now have a GED.

.I have a misdemeanor “hit and run (property damage)” on my record(2004).
-4 years probation for this incident, 3 years for the hit and run, and 1 year for driving without insurance.
-I spent a night in the holding cell (2004).
-4 days in county jail as a result of a “failure to appear” stemming from that same case (2006).
*Apparently, if this charge isn’t already, I can have it exphunged.

.The car that I had was repo’d due to the fact that it wasn’t insured on the night of the accident.
-that has account has been settled and taken care of, monetarily anyway.

I ran myself into $ 3,000 in credit card debt with business that I started in 2006 and incorporated in 2007. One of the reasons why I am burned out.

I know that this is a train wreck, but I need another shot. Question is who’ll grant me that opporitunity? The choice in certificate will also effect what degree that I major in.Here are the vocational fields that I am considering:

.Aviation certificate- civilian or military(Pursue an Aviation, Science, or Psychology degree after)
.Psychiatric Technician certificate (Psychology)
.Fitness/Athletic Trainer certificate (Kinsieology, Psych, definately a teaching credential)
.Health Care certificate- Psych(as mentioned), EKG Tech, Dental Asst, etc.
I also like LAW, and I think that I would be good at it.

I’ve researched ALL of these to DEATH. I can repeat the cert guidline info backwards and forwards, I do have an interest in ALL of them with the execption of Health Care other than Psychology. But, which is the more promising field? Who will hire me?

I’m going to exphunge my record, but how far will that stretch on my record?

I’m going to clean up my credit, but I need a better job, and how far will that stretch on my credit report?

What should I do?
BUNNY D and MR. ED,

I’ll simplify this for you guys:

. I stated that I am going to get a vocational certification FIRST, so that I can get a better job to better support my family while I earn a degree which will be more long term unless I enter an accelerated program.

. My EDD insurance is doing just fine for now. My family is fed and happy, and the bills are up to date.

. My “dreams” are a long term goal, while I work.

Mr Ed,

Sure, I’ll sell myself and my family short and go work construction, because that’s all I deserve, right?

Bunny D.,

I hope the summary will assist you with your reading comprehension deficiency, or did you skim it and just decide to put me in my place?

Sometimes people have to live life, and make mistakes before they learn, not all paths are identical.

Best answer:

Answer by Bunny D.
Wow. What a post. I am almost overwhelmed with all the information. Let us see…you are 29 and have a 10 month old child. Okay. I would say the first thing on your agenda is to get a job to support yourself and your family. That is on a daily and weekly and monthly basis. I would get a job, work…..and worry about your dreams later as far as being a lawyer, etc. Do you have any idea what that would cost? If you are wealthy and have all the time and money to persue your dreams….great for you….if not…..put one foot in front of the other and take care of the family you have created. I do wish you very good luck.

Question by Johnnyk: How can I write a convincing finance resume where my experience looks mixed (but isn’t)?
I left college for financial reasons many years ago and do not have a degree. I have overseen staffs of college grads, have been a coach and mentor to many, and am more well versed in business than the vast majority of graduates. I am currently working on my accounting degree, but will need to find work before I finish school. I have 7 years of international trade experience, including 5 in management that I do not include on my resume because it is old. I am 40 and looking for work in banking or finance. Current resume information:
1.Director of Operations / General Manager — I managed a division of a co. for 1.5 years. Started as a temporary clerical position. I salvaged a major account by negotiating a compromise with an irate salesperson and the client. I began doing accounting and found systematic cheating by a large client. The financial materials I prepared to address this resulted in prompt payment of $ 200,000+. I then took over a failing division of the company and within 7 months the division was profitable. It was sold to someone with an MBA and extensive industry experience and within 6 months the company was bankrupt. The parent company was part of the dot com crash of 2000 and I was again looking for work.
2.Accounting (interim position for an insurance company). Spent a year there before, an urgent personal matter forced me to move on short notice (family related). The president of the insurance division gave me a glowing review and dozens of contacts where I would be moving including members of her family.
3.Wine Distributor, 14 months. Interim position taken immediately after arriving in my hometown. I worked independently for a company several hundred miles away, and reintroduced the company and its brands to this smaller local market with great success.
4.Finance / Credit Analysis / VP I was invivted to join a finance company (commercial leasing / lending). I became an officer of the company and built a significant clientele from scratch and generated the majority of the company’s revenue. I was there 6 years before market conditions soured and all staff other than the president and a part-time CPA were cut.

I am having trouble writing a resume that adequately conveys my accounting, business development, and management background. I am also having difficulty getting responses to my applications.

Advice?

Best answer:

Answer by Andrew
I’ve seen a few good resumes that come across my desk that do exactly what you are looking to do. The best suggestion would be to list your previous employers in one grouping (along with the dates of your employment, etc.) in one section and then list various job duties and responsibilities that are relevant to the position(s) for which you are applying immediately underneath.

This will help keep the resume simple and easy to read, as well provide useful information to the person reviewing the resume and/or doing the hiring.

If you need any resume templates, check out www.inknowvation.net. There are a few free templates that you may be able to modify to meet your need.

I hope this helps.

Question by : Whats the best way to Network Market?
Alright, so i’m part of an MLM company (Team Beachbody) and i’m struggling with network marketing. I have already asked the friends and family, but there is only so far that you can go with that. I have tried youtube, making a website, Facebook and still nothing….. For my MLM business we are also always looking for new coaches. Any ideas how to find new people to join or just get my MLM business off the ground?
Please don’t send me and website urls for an answer. Thanks in advance

Answer by Mike
Man you’re doing the macro without the micro.

This is gonna be really !@$ !@ing hard without websites…so I’ll dump those in the sources but I’ll do my best…whatever deity exists if any…give me strength.

For Youtube:
The weight of your marketting power on youtube depends on how many subs, views, and likes you have. So you have to focus on getting those three, comments of course help as well (mostly to drive traffic to your video though to get more views). I recommend you make videos about what you’re selling and optimize them with the proper tags, title, and description. After that it’s all up to your video.

For Twitter:
Try and comment on the tweets of other companies similar to yours. Build “twitter relationships” follow them and hope they follow back (unfollow if they don’t within 2 weeks), get a few of your tweets retweeted by high ranked twitter accounts and your following will increase. It’ll take a bit though.

For Facebook:
Best way to get in good here is to have a lot of friends Add everyone you know on facebook and add anyone who has mutual friends to them. Be active in the facebook community, play some games, make comments on other groups, and make sure you share your company’s group updates on your facebook page.

For all of these:

Connect your accounts. Make your youtube uploads visible on facebook and twitter, add a link to your facebook page and twitter page in your video descriptions, make your tweets visible on facebook, make your comments on facebook visible on twitter, etc. The more connected your accounts are the more likely twitter followers will become facebook fans, facebook fans become twitter followers, and youtube views become facebook fans.

Question by J. Puggle: How much would you pay for a Comprehensive Resume Analysis and Interview Coaching?
I have a degree in Human Resources and Systems Management, and friends always ask me to look at their resume or to help them with their interviewing skills. I am looking to possibly start a small business in efforts to bring my assistance to others.

What are your general thoughts on this and is it something you would pay for (if it is reasonably priced)?

Thanks everyone!

Best answer:

Answer by ALFimzadi
I took a course on this in college, so unless I was interviewing for a 100K+ job, I wouldn’t find this of use to me, because I am very confident in my resume building and interviewing skills…if I did use a service such as this, I wouldn’t pay more than $ 100.

I’m sure that there are several people though who would really benefit from your services, but I really don’t know what they would be willing to pay.
